Project how much your Australian superannuation balance could grow to by retirement, based on your current balance, employer contributions, and expected return. Starting with a AUD 20,000 balance at age 30, with 12% employer contributions on an AUD 80,000 salary and a 7% average annual return, a superannuation balance could realistically grow past AUD 500,000 by retirement age.

Australia Superannuation Calculator FAQs

What's the current mandatory super contribution rate?
It is 12% of your ordinary time earnings since 1 July 2025. This calculator uses 12% and takes off the usual 15% contributions tax that your fund pays on it.
Does this include voluntary contributions?
Add any voluntary/salary-sacrifice contributions into your monthly contribution figure for a more complete projection.
When can I access my super?
Generally at your "preservation age" (currently around 60, depending on birth year) and once you've met a condition of release such as retirement.
Is salary-sacrificing into super tax-effective?
Often yes — super contributions are typically taxed at a flat concessional rate, which can be lower than your marginal income tax rate, though caps apply.
