Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) Calculator FAQs

For how many years do I have to deposit?
You deposit for 15 years from the day the account is opened. After that you stop paying in, but the balance keeps earning interest until the account matures 21 years after opening.
Can I take money out before 21 years?
Yes, partly. Once your daughter turns 18 (or passes class 10) you can withdraw up to 50% of the balance at the end of the previous financial year for her higher education or marriage. The calculator shows an estimate of that amount.
Is the interest taxable?
No. Like PPF, the money you put in can qualify for a deduction under the old regime, the interest is tax-free and the maturity amount is tax-free as well.
How many accounts can I open?
One account per girl child, and normally a maximum of two daughters per family. Check the current rules for exceptions, such as twins.
