For example, someone born on 15 March 1995, checked against 17 September 2026, comes out to 31 years, 6 months and 2 days: 31 full years have passed since the birth year, the birthday itself already happened this year in March, and 2 days have passed since that most recent birthday. Because leap years fall on every year divisible by 4 (except most century years), an accurate age calculation has to check each year in the range individually rather than simply dividing the total number of days by 365, or the result can drift off by a day every few years.
